Is there a Toyota engine that I can swap into my 1998 Pontiac Sunfire 2.2L, and can this be done practically speaking?

Question type: Car Customization

I love the car, not the engine! I love
the Toyota 22RE. It is one HELL of a
tough engine. How hard would it be
to fit that or similar engine and trans
in my 1998 Sunfire 2.2?

The R series Toyotas are longitudinal.. the engine goes in the car with belts in front... rear wheel drive.....now correct me if I am wrong but is the Sunfire not transverse?

good point David,, now Sebastian can go back to dream land ! no offence kid, we all would like to swap out something for the better choice ,but the involvement outweighs the concept, Then theirs the boss hoss cycle co. whats up with that? So keep thinking ,maybe you could splice the front clip from a Toyota supra with a little welding and hammering!

The toyota 22 r longitudinal engine , 2.2 litre, only applies to toyota pickup trucks, rear drive. On the other hand, the 2.2 litre toyota camry, front wheel drive, is yransverse mounted.
