2001 outback

I was told by the garage I needed new head I drove the car home til I saved the money to repair and now the car is misfiring will new heads fix this

Why did they say you need a new head? Is is warped or cracked? Warped heads can usually be resurfaced.

Check plugs and wires for misfires, especially if CELs are both on the SAME HEAD! If ignition is ok you may have a bad valve in the head, but i'd also swap in a used coil pack just to make sure it's not that either. If head is flat and clean I'd just clean up the valve, test the head for crack/flatness and then install new HG on that side. Headd are relatively cheap, but then you have to reload it.
