Interested in advice about switching from my Subaru Foresters with head gasket issues to the less expensive Nissan Rogue?

After a year of research and throwing money at my previous favorite car
Subaru Forester - known for the rising cost of repairs and head gasket issues
due to the Boxer engine
I need to replace my '09 with a less expensive small used SUV. I've driven
only Foresters for 20 years. Lost my trust in Subaru and have to save money.
I've heard I cannot trust researching used cars in Consumer Reports which has
always been my "go to"
Have the Nissan Rogues improved enough to consider? I drove one once but it
felt flimsy compared to my good old Forester. Wish to switch to a Honda CRV
or RAV4 but don't have the funds now to get one with 75,000 or less miles.

I would avoid any vehicles that have the CVT transmission for now.

Thanks again Bob! I don't know which cars have CVT engines. I would like a car with no more than 75,000 miles on it so I can't really find much - I live in the country with a rough driveway and need to carry things like a wheel chair for my mom so I need a small SUV. Any recommendations? The worst car I ever owned was a Ford but the Escape is the right size. Does it have a CVT?
The Nissan CVT is a disaster. I would avoid them at all costs. If the Rogue is part time AWD which I suspect it is it will be inferior to the Subaru AWD.
The Explorer might be what you want. A 4x4 pickup with a shell on the bed could also work for you.

Thanks to all for insight - the Rogues look good from the outside but I had that bad feeling. You know that feeling when you close the door of a car and it just doesn't sound "right?" This is a hard process with no one to help so I appreciate Car Gurus. Having trouble finding a Forester in these parts I can afford with 75,000 or so miles on it. I don't understand the elements that make different Honda CRVs of the same year range in value (asking price) Total novice here. Also, Any thoughts on a more recent model Ford Escape? Have they worked out the kinks yet? WHats the difference in an Eascape Titanium?
