changed the IAC valve in a 2001 Mercury Grand Marquis and the check engine light came on. what would cause this. Thanks so much for your help.

Many things, have the car scanned for the codes. Your local auto parts store should do it for free, and post the 4 digit code back here and we can help. We'd just be guessing as to why your light is on.
