Engine light cam on day before car had trouble picking up I stopped at a light then it just stalled. I have lights and radio windows work. But when I turn the key car won't start and there is a faint thumping noise.

If the battery is weak, you might have a "clicling " noise if the battery is weak not allowing the car to start. So I'd remove the battery and have your local auto parts store test it out. Install the new one and see if your issues go away. If not, have the local auto parts store scan the car for the codes if the engine light is still on.
