Ford did not make a super duty in 1978. If it had and optional ranger package it will say so on the glove box door and under the F250 emblem on the side of the truck. The vehicle info tag will give you all of the truck specs, it is located on the drivers door opening below the door striker.

the guy that i bought the truck from is trying to tell me that the truck is a super duty...i think its a ranger xlt. thats what it says on the glove box but on the fender it says f250 ranger and he claims that he just put the ranger emblem on it because he couldnt find the correct (superduty) emblem.....im going to add a photo of the info tag...let me know what you think. thanks for your help!!

1978 f250 4x4

Looks like a standard F260 to me. Can't tell from the photo but are the front hubs about 3.5 inches across or 2 inches across? The rear axle shaft hub how far does it stick out from the wheel?

Listen to tennisshoes. Nice lookin' truck!

Front hubs are 4 inches across. The rear axle hub shaft is 2 1/2 from the rim. It's all heavy duty underneath also

Good you have the 1 ton front end and nobody's messed with the rear end. Back in those days we used to call these trucks "Highboys" most of them were running 400M engines 410 ratio rear ends with 411 in the front, motors were a little weak for the really rough stuff but the rest of the truck was solid. Good looking truck.

So what emblem belongs on the front fender? Right now there is a f250 ranger emblem that the guy I bought it from said he put on cause he couldn't find a superduty emblem. It makes sense now cause there wasn't a superduty truck for that year. Do u agree?

If there is a Ranger Badge on the glove box then it has a Ranger package so there should be Ranger emblems on the fenders along with the F250. If there is anything left of the original interior, it would have carpet on the floor, upgraded stereo system, cloth seats with either a bench or bucket seats with possibly a center console, also AC and cruise control with the deluxe package.

Yes that front axle did come stock on the heavy duty unit. What time zone are you in? Don't want to call too late.

You can call now. We're in pa.

Look at your manual books it tell you what your truck do
