Can I drive to my mechanic with only 7 spark plugs?

Asked by Aug 13, 2013 at 10:11 AM about the Ford F-150

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My husband could not get the 8th spark plug in - the socket dropped back and he doesn't have the proper tools.  Can I drive with only 7 spark plugs - about 15 miles to my mechanic.  Towing is  very expensive... Thanks for your help.

Doesn't need to be plugged in but atleast needs to be installed. That particular cylinder will not hold any pressure without it. And

It will dump fuel onto piston.

you risk running a dry cylinder which is far worse..... cylinder 4 or 8? and is it a 4.6 0r 5.4L? Simple 3" extension and a swivel socket usually does the job and make sure u have a flexible magnet to remove the tools piece by piece

In short NO. That is too far away, and you will have to disconnect the injector to that cylinder or run a risk of starting a fire with vaporized fuel exiting the open cylinder. Check if some shop will do a service call, some places have a mobile truck that will come to you. Tell them exactly what you need done. It may be cheaper than towing.

Towing is cheaper than a fire.

Get a swivel, a socket extension, and a flex magnet. A lot cheaper than a tow, Much cheaper than a fire, which would be more expensive than an engine.
