I'm wondering...does my Escape have a transfer case? If so, how often should I replace the oil in it, and what weight of oil?

Your vehicle has what is called a PTO, or Power Take off Unit, which is similar to a transfer case and a rear differential. The rear diff and PTO should be changed out around 100K. I changed out my rear diff fluid with synthetic at 60K.
