Question type: Maintenance & Repair

If you don`t hear sound from the fuel pump in the tank, with the key on, and the engine will not start, but the fuel gage is working, on front and rear tank postion, is the fuel pump bad ? Also on a 1989 E150 cargo van, are there two fuel pumps? Thanks.

yes the pumps are on the frame just behind the driver door, the pump or sending unit or in the tank each tank has its own unit fuel pumps on the rail will ingage but if the sending unit is bad no start will acure.

thats also hard to say for certin, have a friend or family member help you with this one. unhook the fuel line that is befor the pump on the frame for the front tank and have the member turn the key on if no fuel comes out of the line its a good indecation that the sending unit is bad turn key off hook line back up and try the other line for the rear tank . if both are good look at the fuses there will be a fuel fuse under the dash on the driver side and a fuel relay on the " if you face the hood on your left " panel tucked behind it will be green you cant test that one. if its bad just replace.
