EGR Valve

1999 E-150 5.4L engine. want to clean or change EGR what size nuts are on this and what size is the large one. I see two holding it and then a pipe with a large nut I belive over an inch but not sure

first question,why or what makes you think the egr needs cleaning or replaced.

I am pulling up a code P0401 and have already replaced the EGR sensor and still running bad

if the egr has been replaced,it should be ok,try changing the fuel filter,run a good fuel injector cleaner in a tank of gas,sea fome or lucas is best.when you replaced the egr did you clear the coad,unhook battery for 10 min,it will reset the computer ,clear out the may also want to clean the IAC,Idle Air Control,with carb cleaner,is on TB,is round plugin at bottom,also spray the inside of TB clean it out.


I cleaned theMAF and IAC and it does runs better but when you stop it idles bad and some time will just stall while sitting. Thinking if I should just bite the bullet and buy a new MAF sensor (already cleaned it twice) or buy a new IAC or both What say you which one first or both

Neither yet,have the cat converter checked to see if stoped up.& have the DIS modgel a gray looking box type ,should be located on top of ac,or on dist.


cat converter ok really thinking my main problem is EGR valve I unpluged the MAF sensor and drove it it seemed to be about the same. Have already replaced EGR sensor. think next step is new egr and clean ports, not saying the MAP will need to be replaced later. But right now everything ponts to EGR valve

all the egr really affects is idle.


went for a test drive tonight. it ran ok when it got up to about 55 mph and started to chug a little bit let up on gas then push on gas ran a little smoother you just can't push on gas hard and expect it to take off like it use to. talked to a mechanic on way home he said he never has any good luck cleaning MAF said just replace it

Im still not sure the MAF is the problem,sounds more like dirty injectors,this gas or crap we buy with the ethonol in it,not good,still I would fill up with 89 or 93 oct run a bottle of sea fome in a tank of gas.will clean injectors,replace fuel filter also.


Need to check the riser pipe from the manifold to EGR valve It's possibly cracked or broke.
