does the airbag system on a 2009 e150 need to be de-energized to prevent potential damage and/or computer confusion due to plugging the wires for the seatbelt together under the driver seat?

Asked by Sep 28, 2010 at 10:30 AM about the Ford E-150

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Airbag lite came on while I was driving. Didn't think to look under driver seat where
seatbelt wiring harness is located. Took it to ford garage where they diagnosed the
problem and explained the process to me as follows: 1.diagnose by hooking up to
computer. 2.harness under driver seat was found to be the culprit. 3.fix by de-energizing
airbag system& then plugging the harness back together so the system would not be
damaged or disturb the sensative computer. Is this just BS or is there truth to it? They
charged me over $82.00 because of the protocol necessary to do the job.
