shifting out of park

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

If I'm parked on a hill, I can't shift out of park.  Why?  How do I fix it?

adjust the parking cable. check out the transmission mounts while your at it

there is a recall/Technincal Service Bulletin for this, I know...just cannot find the thread for this....check your dealership on this issue~

How to park on a hill. If you are headed down hill, park your car as you normally would then turn the steering wheel far right and slowly let the car gently come up against the curb, set the park brake then put it into park. Parking up hill is the same but instead of turning right turn left and let the car back into the curb gently. Doing it this way you will take the tension off of the parking pawl inside the transmission. You must have a properly operating park brake for this too work.
