Does the engine rev and it will not move? If so, it is definatly a transmission problem! Do not turn it on!! Get it towed to a mechanic!

yes it moves at first it wont start so i got a jump to my battery which took about 15 mins to start my car start to drive it and it wont go faster then 5 mph then it spurted and went regular speed for about two miles and then went back to 5 mph pilled over and my battery had some steam coming from it and a nasty smell coming through my vents. my car is moving but wont go fast

it is methane gas "rotten egg smell", from the battery, it is cooking, dude shut the car off, (in neutral get to side of road/safe place), and leave it off, the battery will bulge on the sides, and can blow up.....loud dangerous mess....once it is cool, you can try again, this time not in 1st gear or drive, but in 2, (second gear), let the revs up, and you should be able to get home, let me know if it is there, and we can further diagnose it.

My 2003 Nissan altima only goes 5 mph. But not the car want start. I took the battery to auto zone and they said the battery was trash, like its no good. I'm going to buy another battery but I don't know if a battery would be the cause of the car only going five mph. But they did say the battery was trash. Could that be the problem?
