code misfire on cyl # 2 what does this mean or were would i check first

Either the spark plug or the ignition coil on cylinder two is faulty. Replace and check if code goes away.

Sure do, about $50-$60 and get a set of plugs too, $2 a piece. I failed to mention that depending on your model year, you might have spark plug wires vs Coil on Plug. went to auo parts store they only sellin sets 250.00 so i changed the coil from # 2 to back of engine cyl and replaced plugs still have the missfire on last cyl so i now i need the coil going to look at around my miata is a 97 with only 51k

in '97 it uses a coil pack for all 4, and spark plug wires right, not individual coil on plugs?

not sure my son said it just needed one coil moved the bad coil from # 2 cyl to back of engine and changed all 4 plugs.

There should be 2 coils but both part of 1 assembly on a Mk1, the coils do go faulty, I have a Mk 2.5 2001 mod el with 2 coils sat on the top of the engine & get very hot, both have had to be replaced. When you think about it the coil pack is probably one of the most stressed parts of the engine.
