Air bubbles

I got a volkswagen microbus 2.6lt, 1996 model. How do i get rid of all the air
bubbles in the cooling system. Some guys told me that the engine must be higher
than the radiator, some told me the radiator must be higher than the engine, than i
had to add the water. I'm convuse, HELP ME PLEASE
