Why deceptive info on car

10

Asked by Guru9ZCBX6 Dec 08, 2020 at 05:08 AM about the Audi Q5

Question type: Shopping & Pricing

Interested in a car you had listed with a clean car fax, specifically no accidents.
Checked VIN and turned out this car had an accident and had been bought
from auction.  At this point car had been transferred to several different
dealerships to sell.  Clearly issues with this car, yet Car Gurus was trying to
pass off as a clean one owner buy.  WHY??

The vehicle history information that you see is from an outside source, not cargurus. Not all facilities report to all vehicle history companies. For example, if you look at the Carfax report for my 1993 Caprice you would see where I bought it on October 16, 1993. Then nothing until January of 2000. The vehicle was always serviced at my local Chevrolet Dealer who didn't start reporting to carfax until January of 2000. Vehicle history reports are a great tool when shopping for a vehicle. But they're not the be all end all of everything that's happened to a vehicle during its life. Hope that helps! Jim

Yes, Cargurus uses Autocheck for car history.

CG's does not sell cars. Complain at the seller.

F.O.R. No kidding. I did complain at the seller. Same ole story, they blame CarGuru. Car Guru puts out the info, but takes no responsibility for the information they are incorrectly spreading (stating a clean car fax when in fact car fax is not clean) to unsuspecting consumers who do not know better, and do not check further. What a racket.

You can also ask the selling Dealer for a Carfax report. Many will provide it free of charge to try to get the sale. Hope that helps! Jim

CG's does not put any information out there. The ad content is purely from the dealer.
