my heater goes on and off intermitently

Some vehicles are equipped with automatic temp heatrs that will cycle on/off. You don't give enough info to say thats it, but if not, its probably the resistor thats part of the fan speed switch. Most are located in the heater box and typically have 3 wires going to it. Replace if you remove it and find the wires inside or traces are broken.
