replace alternator but battery still does not hold a charge on a 1999 chrysler sebring
Battery is dead car drives nice just
does not hold a charge car has
been to dealer and 3,500 dollars
later same problem
battery dosnt hold a charge and they replaced alternator? ummm, did they load test the battery? could be a bad battery. 3500 dollars to replace a alternator... on a 99 sebring. wtf is going on here lol. stealership continues to hold its rep as a part replacement facility without any technicians that can diagnose.
Is it a battery problem or a slow drain from an open circuit? I'd guess the latter.
A open circuit would not cause a drain, actually it would be the opposite.
step 1, check battery, check voltage as its sitting, then charge it an load test it. remember that a fully chaged battery is 12.6V so if its sitting below 12V after a charge, you'll need a new battery. hard to test electrical system with a bad battery. step 2, there could be a drain on the battery, best way to check is to use a ammeter or a "amp clamp" but first close doors and lock it, and make sure visually nothing stays on, like lights, radio, vanity mirror lights, etc. this is assuming the alternator is performing (14V+ charging), and i would hope so for 3500 bucks.
I was thinking slow drain and started to write open door (like glove box that would turn on the glove box light) and then I realized that not every car has courtesy lights when you open the glove box or ashtray so I back spaced but didn't back space far enough. He's looking for a slow drain from a circuit.( not that you can do much about it but Petey is right when he wonders what they hosed you $3500. on)
You can get another car for $3500. Did you mean $350?
My car doing the same thing im thinking of junking it sumbody said they not good cars
