trunk won't lock or close

My trunk was just fine but now will not close to lock it

Have you inspected the lock mechanism to make sure its in the open position or that it isnt being blocked with debris.

It looks totally normal. There was a piece of plastic from something I bought, and opened I am guessing, but not for sure. I had used my cane to hold back up I didn't try to close it with my cane in there, but had tried when plastic was there yet stopped ASAP when I felt the resistance. What else might it be? Not electrical!! PLEASE. OH By the way THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!
