changing to synthetic oil

Asked by DollyPT Jul 20, 2010 at 01:11 PM about the Chrysler PT Cruiser

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My friend that changes the oil wants to add a quart of trans oil to the engine oil and have me drive around for a week before he switches to synthetic oil.

Does that sound right?

Trans Oil (fluid?) in the engine??? Look... I switch back and forth between traditional and synthetic all the time (mostly depends on cash flow). There is no viscosity difference between regular and synthetic... Synthetic does not break down and sludge up the engine (main difference)..

Transmission fluid still contains detergents in it, which will aid in cleaning out your engine. This however is not a necessity when changing from regular to synthetic oil.
