Why does my heat gauge sporadically indicate that the engine is over heating?
The heat gauge sporadically indicates the engine is overheating. The needle goes passed the red. This happens when I am standing in traffic or at a traffic light. Then the moment I start moving, the gauge needle returns to it's normal position. When I open the bonnet the water is not boiling and the engine does not seam too hot.
If you turn the heat on while it says its "overheating," does the needle go back down? Sounds most likely like a faulty sensor or wiring if you're positive it's not actually overheating.
Possible that the gauge is off, but never the less, check to make sure the fans on the radiator are working. Sounds like they are not.
Cooling fans working?
As above, check if fan comes on but seems its just a faulty heat sensor
