bantam rocam 1.6l model 2009 does not crank?

replaced piston rings and pistons had head skimmed added top head saver +-
4mm. when attempted to start, could hear fuel pump kicking in, but only few
cranks no fire.  What could be issue? connected direct wire from battery to
solenoid. got crank but no fire.

Check the position of the starter selonoid cable. Its possibly running in the same channel as the crank angle sensor wiring. Remove the starter selonoid wire out of this channel and re rout it away from the crank angle sensor wiring. The high voltage current from the starter selonoid, is inducing this voltage into the crank angle sensor wiring.
