How can I repair tach and gear display in my BMW 850 ci?

Asked by Jun 05, 2015 at 12:22 AM about the BMW 8 Series

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 1993 BMW 850 ci has a tach that spins to red line intermittent even standing still.
ALSO, when I'm in Park, it lights down on stick as R and so on.  How can it be repaired?

Can't help with the tach but I can tell you about the shifter indicator. If you remove the shifter section you'll see a sliding plastic arm that links to the shifter movement; right next to it is the lightbulb with a ROTATING collar that changes direction as you shift - spotlighting and illuminating the gear selected. THIS is your issue...it may need an adjustment or a piece just broke off....
