What years did the Caddy Seville come in the "flat back" version?
I am considering what Caddy I should get. I know that the flat trunk was not all
that popular, but it has always had an appeal to me. I am a hardcore Caddy fan.
It is time for me to get the one I really want and I like the look.
The Bustleback Seville was produced from 1980 thru 1985. However, STAY AWAY FROM 1982 thru 1985 models with the HT4100 or Diesel engines. They were absolutely disastrous!! Also, stay away from Seville's that were originally equipped with either of those engines and now have something else in there. There was NO drop in replacement engines for these vehicles. Other engines can be put into these cars BUT the electronics need to be modified rendering, among other things, about half of the dashboard "dead". The 1981 models equipped with the V8-6-4 modulated displacement 368 engines were good. A lot of people are afraid of these engines because they'd start out on 8 cylinders, switch to 6 cylinders, then as you approached cruising speed, switch to 4 cylinders. It was offered across the board at Cadillac for 1981 only. I can tell you from personal experience these were very good engines. My Sister had an '81 Eldorado with the V8-6-4 and never had a problem with it. Today, though, the availability of parts may be something to consider. However, as years went by most people simply disconnected the variable displacement feature and ran them as a regular V8. They ran perfectly fine that way. So, I'd strongly recommend getting an '80 or '81 model. You'll also want to join The Cadillac LaSalle Club as well. They have an excellent website and tons of sources for parts. HTH. -Jim
The 80 was probably their best year, I remember them growing up and I thought it was a cool design, Different...Good Luck..
