Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I was told i have a burnt valve. If  I pull the head
and take it to a machinist can he fix it? Will my son
and I be able to lift the head? Will I need to get a
new valve?

Yes, a machine shop can check the head for cracks and usually fix it. The machine shop will normally get the valves, check the valve guides and install new valve springs. The head alone weighs about 45 pounds but is awkward due to it's length. Worse case scenario, Auto Zone has rebuilt heads for about $400.
