This is your brake pad wear warning indicater. If this light is permanently illuminated or flickers when brakes applied the brake pads have worn sufficiently low enough to require replacement. Also be aware that there are sometimes wear indicater wires both on the front and in some cases on the rear pads. And finally if you have worn and 'lipped' brake discs the lip can cut into the indicater wire prematurely causing the light to come on. Always recommended to replace the pads and discs as 'axle pairs' never singulary.
