Transmission fluid squirting

Asked by May 03, 2016 at 08:42 PM about the GMC Sierra 1500

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

GMC 1976 sirreia grand c15* So we are all
completely puzzled. The transmission fluid
keeps coming out of the dipstick tube. We
added a external cooler. And got a new
dipstick and it still keeps coming.
Transmission seems to shift fine. So we
don't think the we need a new one. So at this
point I'm just seeking outside answers. Any
clue or suggestions for this situation?

Totally bypass the cooler in the transmission, and while your there make sure it is pushing fluid through both sides, if one cooler lines is kinked or plugged the trans will overheat and that is why your getting fluid up the tube.

Should I look for a filter? Would that cause this problem as well? And where would it be? Because we love this rig and need it running again desperately.

The filter is in the tranny, when you drop the pan for a service that gets replaced as normal maintenance. You can add an inline filter to one of the cooler lines if you want.
