bmw 118d left alone 1 year.
i got a bmw 118d,year late 2006,122hbp.i left home,so the car now is not
driven for approximathely 1 year.what is the less wrong: if i dont start the
engine at all, or i start the engine for how long?periodically in each 2
weeks? each month?if engine started needs to run fiew miles or its inough
to keep running 20 minutes 30 minutes to worm up?(i need to ask one of
my relatives who is at home to start the engine if its needed.)
I have 2 cars that I don't use much. My belief is that it's better to drive them for about an hour at least every 4 months or so. This keeps everything moving, lubricated, and working. Storing a vehicle in a garage is best. But if this is not possible, buy a car cover and cable lock set for your BMW. You don't need a super expensive one. Just one that is well fitting and will protect the paint from the weather. You should disconnect the negative (-) battery cable each time the car is parked for an extended period or the battery will go dead. I bought a disconnect switch that bolts to the battery terminal for each of my cars. This way I can just turn off the negative (-) side of the battery when I park the car. Keep the gas tank full most of the time to prevent water condensation in the gas tank. You can add a fuel stabilizer to the gas tank but actually it shouldn't be necessary if you fill up with premium. Premium grade gasoline keeps better than the lower grades. HTH. -Jim
if i disconnect the battery from the car... will not loose any stored security code?than will not recognise the lock key card?
I don't know about that. Check your owner's manual or your local BMW Dealer. If that's the vase there should be some way to power down the car so that the battery doesn't go dead while in storage. HTH. -Jim
