In a 1999 for Taurus lx on interstate .

Well that kind of a loaded question not knowing the final drive ratio and the ratio of top gear in the tranny. It can range from 1800 to as high as 2800 all depending on the gearing. I had a truck that was turning 3800 at 60 it was geared that low.

You can calculate what it your RPM should be, but you'll need some info from your car. Go here: https://www.ringpinion.com/calculators/Calc_RPM.aspx , then pull your axle ratio from any online VIN decoder, go to "tech specs" and find your overdrive ratio. You'll also need your tire size, which you can also find under the VIN decoder if it's still stock. Plug those numbers in and you can get what your engine RPM will be at any given speed.

Are the Rpms high, do you suspect the transmission isn't shifting into O/D? Should be around 2000prms.
