Hard shifting could be sticky shift solenoids, these solenoids when they get some age on them tend to heat up after driving and then get a sticky and then slam into gear. A tranny shop should be able to plugin to the trans and check the actual solenoid operation and the TCM then let you know what it will take to fix it.

Thanks! My next couple weeks are booked pretty solid, so I would prefer to not have to take in the car until I have the time. Is this something that would be considerably bad to drive on until I can take the car in?

It is hard on transmission internal clutches, as it can shear off the tiny little splines. How good are you at shifting into nuetral to when you apply the brakes then back into drive when ready to go?

I have not tried braking that way, but if it is something that could prevent further damage, I will try.
