How to get to the timing chain of a 2005 ford explorer 6 cylinder
That's for 4.0 SOHC. V6
Engine has to come out to get to the chain at the back. There is aslo a chain at the front.
A slapping noise from the engine could indicate a tensioner needs to be replaced. Usually what happens is the guide, pictured on the left side of the chain goes out from wear. It is teflon coated. Definitely not a back yard, shade tree repair, even if you have the special tools made for just such a repair.
