where do I locate the starter

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

where do I locate the starter in the engine bay

1 Answer

IF your vehicle is a V-8 the starter is located next to the flywheel on the lower part of the engine on the passenger side. The starter is round about the size of a softball and about 12" long. It will have a large gage wire going to the starter solonoid. If your going to remove the starter you must disconnect the battery first then remove the 2 long bolts that retain the starter. Let the starter drop down far enough to remover the heavy electrical wire attached to the solonoid. Take the starter to a local parts store and have it tested..Many times a starter will fail because of poor grounding, starte solonoid failure or possibly the safety start switch has failed. Good luck--hope this is of some help.
