99 malibu gauges acting up starts then dies

Got 99 malibu yesterday today the temp
gauge stop working gas gauge started
acting crazy then battery light came on i
unhooked ground it still run so I unhooked
battery for 20 mins hooked it back up and
now starts but dies 2 seconds later

Since the battery light came on have the alternator checked. For future reference NEVER disconnect the battery cable(s) with the engine running. That creates a power spike that can fry all kinds of electronics!! HTH. -Jim
