Prius 2008 smart key, new battery, locks and unlocks, but car will not start until inserted in dash. Can key become unsynced? Changed 12-volt battery last week.
Last week I replaced my 12-volt battery at the Toyota dealer and afterward
neither of my smart keys is recognized by the car; they must be inserted in the
dash to start the car. At the same time, they work fine locking and unlocking
the key at the normal distance, and have new batteries. Could they have
become desynced from the engine electronics but not the door curcuits?
Yes, when you replace the battery it can reset the key fob and must be reset, I would complain to Toyota, since you did the new battery for them and demand that they reset it. If not I'm sure you can find a link on the internet to do it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=04T8pGq5Fd8 just one of those inconvenience whenever a battery gets replaced or if you have to jump your car.
