Help! I have replaced the radiator, hoses, water pump, thermostat, intake gaskets, everything to do with the coolant system and my mechanic replaced some more hoses and he said it didn't over heat! I drove it 10 miles! The first mile the temp raised to the line under the red zone and then it went back down under half drove it another 8 miles the temp went back up to the line under the red zone turned the heat on and it went back down under the half! Sounds like there's air trapped in the cooling system. Very common on these GMs. Your mechanic should have used a tool to pull the cooling system into a vacuum. Then refill the cooling system. This will insure no air is still in the cooling system. I recently had to do this when I replaced the water pump on my '00 Grand Prix with the 3.8L V6. HTH. -Jim
