when the heater core is bad does it leak out of a hose that comes through the firewall?

there is a small hose that turns down at a 90 degree angle coming out of the firewall into
the engine compartment just right of the middle on passenger side, it leaks coolant, is this
coming from the heater core?

Yes. That hose goes to the catch pan in the dash.
