what size starter shim and location for 1983 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme

when i start the car you can hear the starter squeal, i believe it just needs to
be shimmed but not sure size of shim to use or where to place it...

When you pull the starter off the two long bolts that go through the housing you lay the shim where they come through the starter between the starter and the engine block, as far as the size it is trial and error if one size isn't enough then on to the next until you find the right size shim. I have found that if it does need shimmed usually the mid sized one works the best, it all depends on how deep the drive is engaging the ring gear.
