how to line gears for the timing chain on a 1992 oldsmobile cutlass supreme 3.1

Pulling the spark plugs out will make it easier to turn the engine over. Basically you have to use a socket wrench and turn over the crank and cam until they are in the correct position.

There is a mark on the timing gear and the crankshaft gear that line up together.
