Vins for 1972 Cutlass

Asked by Aug 11, 2013 at 09:25 PM about the 1972 Oldsmobile Cutlass

Question type: General

I am in the market for a 72 cutlass.  There are so many cloans that I want to be able to
identify what the car was born as.  What part of the VIN identifies supreme, 442 and all
the other models and what are those numbers.

Thanks to both responses. These will really help me during my search. Mike

You can also check the trim tag located on the firewall. It will be a metal tag usually on the driver's side held in place by two special rivets. The number you want will start with 72- then a five or possibly six digit model number. HTH. -Jim

These have all been very helpful. Once I begin my search I will now at least look like I know what I am doing. Any good places to search. I have been checking the local craigs list and also Auto Trader Classics.

Try Hemmings Motor News magazine. An excellent source for antique and classic cars and parts. Good luck with your search! HTH. -Jim
