Hi, Rene' with a 1984 ltd crown vic. issue. I have a "cold miss" in my car.... Only after 15-20 miles does this "miss" start going away & car stops "stuttering". New plugs, wires & distribitor cap. Please Help!! Tought it was a "wiring issue" due to car fouling up when rains.... Now Every time I start it, severe missing until 20 mi or so....If it sits for 2 hrs, Problem Again engages & car stutters/misses Horribly again. Any Help??? Thank You!!!!! n :)
Possible blown head gaskets, cracked head. Have you had a block check test done?
Given the age of your car it could be worn valve guide seals allowing oil to drip onto the spark plug tips and fouling them. Try a set of spark plug anti foulers. Do you see a puff of blue smoke when you start it up? That's a good indicator of worn valve guide seals. HTH. - Jim
car has 40,000 original miles plugs always look great uses no oil or coolant.
Put in a can of sea foam with a least 5 gallons in the tank and try running it for about a week. Then add a can of Techron every other tank. If could be a partially plugged injector that won't respond to the higher pulse width that an engine requires until it reaches full operational temperature.
You have a carburetor. Check that the automatic choke is operating correctly. Especially the choke pull off. The choke pull off's job is to open the choke plate just enough to allow the engine to run smoothly when it's started cold. HTH. -Jim
It was the pick up in distributor, replaced that runs good,an old school mechanic told me that was it,he was spot on,OLD GUYS RULE
