Is the expansion tank along side of the radiator necessary on a 1968 Cougar 302
Was this a factory item? I know some older cars didn't have them, and the coolant would just spill out onto the ground when it expanded. Having coolant on the ground noadays is pretty much frowned upon. Can you eliminated it, sure, but why would you want to, I wouldn't. Doesn't weigh much and I don't see any benefit.
Thanks Tom, I was in need of the space. I wasn't sure about it's purpose. Thought maybe it was used as a capillary ( suction) action because the tube enters in the bottom Thanks again rbcougar
