Why won't my 72 Buick skylark turn off when I turn the key to off? It's not sputtering, it's just idling like I'm in park.

if its not the ign. switch its the alt feeding back.

I'm going to try to change the ignition switch but how do I get the steering wheel off?

The ignition switch is down on the outside of the column, you don't need to remove the steering wheel.
