I would give it a try. Your other option is to drill out the trunk lock. You can get a set of replacement locks if you have to.

Yes you can. I have done it on both a '64 and '65...there are bolts that hold the seat backs in place under the carpet on the rear deck...unbolt and they will come out and you will have clear access to the trunk big enough to crawl through

Thanks for your help. I did it in about 45 minutes, rear seat out, keys recovered, seat back in place! Saved my relationship with my son, who owns the car! Of course he bought it because I always talk about the one I owned, in 1965!
