I have a Pontiac G6 2008 and need another key made. I took it to a hardware store and they said they couldn't make a key. They said the Key must gave a chip in it. I can't afford a high price key.

Several options to have key made you just have to see which best fits your budget. You can have them (any key cutting place) cut a key that will only allow you to open and unlock Steering wheel but it will not turn on vehicle or you can call a locksmith to see if they offer that service in your area and of course the dealer which is always expensive. Hope that helps

Try ebay. I got an extra key for my 2000 Grand Prix there. You're looking for a transponder key. That's what it's called. HTH. -Jim

Just to add to Marks answer... You can find the key else where like ebay but the chipped key ( transponder key to the pats ) will still need to be programed to the vehicle and your existing key to have them both work. I have a locksmith that does onsite service for the DFW area that's why i suggest that. He only charges me 75.00 to cut and program them.

If it's the Passkey III system you need a working key, to do it yourself. Just start the car with the working key then shut it off. Remove that key and immediately put the new key in and turn it to the run position. Do NOT try and start the engine. Watch the security light on the dash. When it goes out turn the key back to the locked position. Now immediately start the engine with the new key. You'll be all set. HTH. -Jim

Unless you already have 1 working key, you can't program additional keys to the car. HTH. -Jim

Go to eBay you can get a key blank for a couple of bucks go to hRdware store have them cut it from your original key. Usually free up to $5. Program yourself as follows: put original key in and turn to acc position. Take key out put new key in a start the car key is prgramed
