2008 Trailblazer low fuel light

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

lightThe low fuel light does go on when I start the vehicle but I think it is not registering when the tank is really low....is that possible?

1 Answer

Yes, it's possible. If the gas gauge is not reading correctly the light will not come on. The computer turns on the light when it determines the gas tank is nearly empty. It "knows" this by the sending unit for the gas gauge in the gas tank. If the sending unit is giving a false reading the light won't come on. Example: my '94 Fleetwood never reads below 1/4 of a tank because the sending unit is not accurate. So my low fuel light never comes on. HTH. -Jim
