Air conditioning not working

Hi everyone, my AC stopped working today.  It was an
extremely hot day, and I was running errands around town.  
I stopped and parked at a store, and turned my engine off.
Then I decided not to go in, and restarted the car about ten
seconds later.  As I drove out of the parking lot, I smelled
something like burning rubber.  I pulled over at another
parking lot and let it cool off.  I couldn't use the fan
because it blew air that smelled like burning rubber in my
face for the next ten minutes.  So now I have a fan, but no
AC.  What should I do?  Any ideas on what the problem is?

Maybe one of your pulleys froze and the serpentine belt is riding on the pulley instead of spinning, burning the belt.

The burning smell has stopped.. I did look at the belt today and it was spinning. (If we're talking about the compressor belt).

Actually you may have been right? I took it into the shop and the guy mentioned a pulley. "Removed belt and inspected and found internal bearing noise in AC compressor. Found no pressure in AC clutch and oil coming out from compressor clutch. Tested and found both power and ground circuits working for AC compressor clutch. Recommended replacement of AC compressor at this time.". I don't know what that means, but the service guy said something on the outside of the compressor isn't working. Is a pulley the same as a clutch?
