Need advice

Asked by Apr 05, 2016 at 11:28 AM about the 2008 Dodge Caliber

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I've worked on cars a little, I can usually fix it once I know what the problem
is.  In this case I can't put my finger on it. It doesn't do any of these all the
time except idle rough. 1) RPM will go up and stay up 1000 over until I pull
over and restart. 2) Loses power when stopped 3) lights on the dash flash
and go crazy then loses power 4) will get stuck at 2100 RPM and wont shift
up 5)RPM will jump up and down when driving.
Thank you for any advice you can give

Could be an intermittent communication loss between the ECM and the BCM, bad grounds and there are a bunch of them, wiring harness damage, and the list can go on and on,I would recommend taking it to a shop you trust and have it checked out, unless you have access to Chrysler diagnostic systems testers. It's going to take more than a simple code reader for this one.
