I have a 2008 Altima SL. I hear a sound like a telephone on vibrate coming from the steering column. It occurs randomly--no specific occasions.

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The sound may occur when I first turn on the car in the morning,  as I am driving, when I
come to a stop--no specific pattern.  The sound lasts a second or two.

Sounds like a exhaust heat shield - they will vibrate when they when it rusts off a retaining bolt. Should be able to make it do it by slowing increasing engine speed in Park or neutral and it will hit a harmonic and start to hum/ rattle . Good Luck
