2003 Chevrolet cavalier fluctuate idle and shifting funny

Asked by Jan 06, 2017 at 04:07 AM about the 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2003 Chevrolet cavalier. When I
start the car, the idle fluctuates and
sometimes cuts off. The check engine light
is on reading to change the fuel filter. I
changed it and didn't fix the problem. I had
the front o2 sensor replaced which helped
for almost a week and started showing
same symptoms. I recently just had the
gas tank cleaned and replaced the fuel
pump and the fuel filter again and the idling
is still fluctuating. Was thinking spark
plugs?

A good tune up is a good idea, you should also check and clean the throttle body, make sure you get all the passages, an unmetered air leak can also cause an unstable idle some check all of the fresh air tubes for cracks, you may what to spring for a "live data" scan if the tune and cleaning don't do it, there could be a sensor misread that is sending the incorrect signal to the ECM.

Should go to a shop you trust and have the codes read, they would help you diagnose your problem.
