2004 chevrolet silverado c1500 4.3l crank but no start

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Got a crank but no start condition. Here is some
background info. Bought this truck used and as I'm
driving if I try to floor it at all the rpm Guage
bounces all over the place and at the same time
the engine runs poorly (misfires, jerks around,
almost feels like a transmission problem) but as
soon as I let off it goes back to normal. This
usually throws a code for bad Crank Position
Sensor. I've since put a new motor in as well as a
new CPS. After completing that work the truck
started right up no problem. Let it sit over night
and had a crank but no start condition. Checked it
and I had spark and fuel. I unplugged the battery
and the CPS. Plugged it all back in and the truck
started right up. I took it immediately to have a
crank relearn procedure. After thus was done I still
had that same acceleration problem when I floored
it. I ignored it and just drove the truck
conservativly. Then one day as I was driving the
engine completely died and since then nothing I've
done can get it to start. This is what I've figured out
so far:
I've got compression
I've got spark
Fuel pressure is good
If I manually crank I can hear fuel pump engage as
well as other electrical components
Sprayed starter fluid, no fire
Smell the fluid at tail pipe.

The only thing I can determine is either the
computer lost the CPS signal and has no idea
when to spark. I'm confused since this truck does
have a distributor which I have yet to check
because it was new with the motor. Is it possible
for the ecu to get that lost to where it won't fire at
all? Also I should add that at the rpm gauge I am
not seeing any movement at the needle when I
crank. I'm getting a 12v power supply at the sensor
connector and I believe I was getting a 12v signal
voltage as well which seemed odd to me. I've
checked grounds and they all seem good. Any info
is much appreciated.
